Julianna Lucio-Hernandez

Julianna Lucio-Hernandez, Writer, editor, and photographer

Hello! My name is Julianna Lucio-Hernandez and I bet you’ve never met a Julianna like me. I am a sixteen-year-old girl from California with a passion for writing. I can’t wait for you to meet me!  Under a Pisces moon, I was born on January 30th, 2006, in Anaheim, California. My father was the first of my family to hold me, later my mother, followed by my sister who was born Alyssa four years prior. A year and one month succeeding my birth, my brother, Adrian, was born. The newest addition to my family is my pet dog, Mila, who is incredibly adorable. Although having faced adversity, such as growing up with separated parents, I remember my childhood as a happy one. I had parents who loved me unconditionally, siblings who taught me what fun meant, and friends who gifted me with unbreakable bonds. A pivotal moment in my life was when I began therapy. I attribute my growth as a person to it. Before therapy, my emotions controlled me more than I controlled them. Through the use of therapy, I was able to rewrite this narrative and emerge from it as emotionally intelligent and mentally healthy. I am grateful for my upbringing and will continue to embrace it as a collection of experiences that made me the person I am today. I am currently a junior at Santiago with excitement for what the upcoming school year awaits me. My favorite subjects are English and journalism because I love writing. I am the volunteer coordinator of Santiago’s Young Senators club and I am in Cavaleaders too. I am newly part of Santiago’s Purple Press which I am ecstatic about. I plan to contribute to our newspaper by providing Santiago with entertaining but accurate information. In addition, I aim to dive deep into student life; I wish to encapsulate what being a Cavalier means and entails by amplifying student voices. Outside of school, my hobbies include listening to music, reading, and of course, writing. My favorite musical artists are Fiona Apple and Björk. I adore their music both lyrically and sonically. In my free time, I enjoy reading memoirs; all of my favorite books are, without fail, biographical. When I’m not listening to music or reading, I keep a journal in which I write about my thoughts, short stories, poems, etc. I feel very content with my life at the moment and am immensely grateful for it. In the future, I hope to pursue a career as a music journalist. I feel strongly about musical journalism as it combines the two things I am most passionate about: music and writing. It would be an absolute dream to write for publications such as Pitchfork or Rolling Stone. In an attempt to make this dream a reality, I plan to attend a local university and major in Journalism to further develop my craft.

Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me. I look forward to writing for our school and being a Cavalier alongside all of you!
